Custom Sunflower Statement Hat for Rory - Shine On.
This felted Sunflower Hat is genuinely a one-of-a-kind statement hat for a wonderful human (and customer). He wanted a wide-brimmed, beret-style hat in warm golden yellows. There was the design option to have the petals extend beyond the edge of the hat, so we went with it!
Stay tuned for the coordinating outfit that my client will design and sew!
COLOUR:
• A wide range of warm golden yellows, some oranges and chocolate brown, with the underside near the head size encircled with olive and sage green colours.
SHAPE:
• The hat is symmetrical. On the top side is a raised boss for the sunflower's centre. There are two grooved channels decorating the top. Where the centre of the flower meets the petals, there is a raised frilled area. On the edge of the hat, petals radiate outwards. There is topstitching to create a more sculptural effect.
The hat is a beret scaled up to be a wide-brimmed hat.
SIZE:
• The hat measures 8" / 20 cm in height, 19" / 48 cm in width, and 19" / 48 cm in depth.
• It's a medium-weight felt thickness and weighs 15 oz. / 414 gm.
• Head size 23" / 58.5 cm.
This hat does not have a grosgrain ribbon on the inside.

Of course, you can wear your hat in the rain. After all, felt is made with soap and water, yet naturally resists water. However, if your hat gets drenched, please air dry it by sitting over a wine bottle, so that the brim can retain its shape.

Each FeltHappiness Hat is entirely handmade and created from soft Merino wool fibers using the technique of wet felting. It's an ancient and simple craft that takes patience and lots of kneading to shrink the fibers into a strong, flexible, and warm felt. To learn more, see HERE.
In addition to insulating, wool naturally resists water. Hence, your felted hat will keep you warm in chilly weather and dry in light rain. Plus, wool resists mildew, dirt, and fire!

Measuring Your Head
Every head has its own unique size and shape, which can be measured with a flexible tape measure or even a piece of string.
Take the tape measure and encircle your head, just above the top of your ears. Make sure that the tape measure goes over that small bump at the back of your head. Please don't pull it tightly. Leave a little 'ease' so that one finger can fit under the tape. An ear-to-ear measure can be helpful too.
Measure three times: it is surprising how it can vary!
Inches or centimetres are fine.
